Only a few more days remaining of my awesome Easter Staycation and I can happily report that I have ticked off half the things on the Easter Staycation To Do List.
I just finished my couch throw and it's beautiful, soft and green. (Pictures to come tomorrow.) The 30 balls of wool set me back $60 from Spotlight but well worth it considering the AWESOMENESS of the finished product.
I also got to tick off "Have Ali over for dinner to see Little Pymble." She came over on Tuesday night and I cooked mustard chicken, roast potatoes and a tomato salad from Jamie Oliver's 30min meals cook book. (If you're someone who can royally screw up instant noodles, I highly recommend this book.) It was great to catch up with Ali as her brain is an encyclopedia for all things art and crafty. She gave me good sources for online fabric stores and taught me how to sew a cushion cover without botching it up (i.e. Zipper goes on first! Who would have thought). She even gave me the contact for her cheap skate friend, Erin's wedding florist. I've made an appointment to see the florist next Saturday. Our initial conversation was already promising. Her bridal bouquets start at $90! (As oppose to Helen Brown's $150).
MP and I met with Sharon Wee and tasted wedding cakes yesterday. So yummy! We tried lemon and carrot and coconut and banana and vanilla and chocolate cake, with lemon/lime, white chocolate and milk chocolate ganache. YUM! I showed her pictures of a cake I liked and she has quoted us a reasonable price for doing something similar. So now the only thing we have left to do is pick our flavors. Wedding cake - TICK!
As per Sarah's recommendation, I also went and visited Yulia yesterday. She had dresses at her studio which had just come back from last weekend's wedding Expo and looking at the beadwork on some of her dresses, I know I have stumbled across the next Oscar Delarenta.) I showed her a rough sketch of my dress and she understood exactly what I was after ("zhoo want a beautiful silhouette!" yes, Yulia is Russian.) And what's even better is that Yulia can produce the dress at half the price Penny from Mark Holt quoted me. So wedding dress - A BIG TICK off the list.
Another thing I got to tick off the To Do list yesterday is that I finally went to Porteno! MP and I had dinner with Frank, Sarah and Derek last night. Porteno is the Bodega offshoot which I have been meaning to try for ages. It was a lovely night with great food, good wine and fabulous company. The place specialises in Argentinian food so there was pork belly and lamb from an open spit, fried cauliflower with lentils, a delicious silverbeet salad and warm breads with lovely Argentinian dips. Such a good meal. Definitely looking forward to the next time we go back.
All in all, it's been a very eventful few days. There's still a few things on the to do list which I hope to achieve in the next few days including taking a long drive (which we will do this Sunday when we drive down to Berry for the monthly Berry markets. Very excited about this long awaited trip). I also want to catch Thor tomorrow night but it would be all dependent on what we do about the thing I reeaaallly want to tick off the To Do list...
Buy a darn dining table!
Darn Fanuli for having the perfect dining table for a bagillion dollars! Darn Ozdesigns for having such a cheap table which is slightly too wide and is constructed with such crappy build quality. The question is to splurge or not to splurge... That is the question.
Guess you'll find out in my final Easter Staycation post.
