Executive decision to take time out

Tomorrow is Friday and by the end of it, the first week back would be over. It was hard on Monday but by Tuesday, things were back in full swing. Today, Guy got back from his three year (... ok, three weeks but it felt like years!) Europe trip and it was so good to have my one and only comrade back. I also came to a few realizations today.

Firstly, it really truly doesn't matter what people at work think about me. I'm here to do my job and they are there to do theirs. The only opinions that matter are that of my Managers. If everyone else does not like how I do my job, that is their problem. I really have to start backing myself and not seek the approval of others. There is no need to justify!

I was concerned that one particular person, who i've always gotten along with, would hold a grudge against me as a silent protest for her dear friend, whom I terminated. As I was telling MP about my concern on the drive home, i realised that it doesn't matter what she thinks - I was just doing my job. If she doesn't agree with it, that is her issue, not mine. I just need to ensure that we continue to have a professional and productive working relationship. Friendship is not a clause in my employment contract.

Secondly, I made an executive decision today. After 5:30pm I am NOT going to take work home anymore. That's my time. If work's sole purpose is to enable me to have this beautiful home, eat and cook amazing foods, have great experiences and spend precious time with the people I love, why would I reduce this personal time by spending it thinking about work? It's just Ridiculous!

So we're stopping now. From now on, I am making a conscious decision to be unproductive (in the paid work sense) after 5:30pm. I am choosing to spend more time blogging, sewing, crocheting, cooking, reading, eating, playing... Rather then working and giving my time to the corporate machine. My apartment is still baron. (I'm going to change that!)
I'm bad at cooking. (I need to practice more!)
I want to learn new crafty skills. (It's time to enroll into creative classes again!)

As of now, it's all going to change.

I'm making an executive decision to take ME back.
